Art is Basic School

The art program at Kipps is organized around the priorities of the Basic School.

The school as community – We share our art through school and community displays.  People from our community are guest artists, visitors and volunteers in the art room.

curriculum with coherence – The Virginia Art Standards of Learning and the National Visual Arts Standards are taught to seamlessly flow from the art room to grade level classroom with meaningful links to classroom units of instruction.

climate for learning – The art room is designed to offer an optimal place for creating art. Students respect their work, the work of others and the art materials.

A commitment to character – Students practice the seven Basic School virtues in the art classroom. We learn about character in studying the lives of famous artists.

All students have one 45 minute art class per week.
